The German Yachtmaster qualification “Binnen Motor”

certificates you to handle a motor boat of 15 m length and more than 5 hp, whereas the German legislator doesn’t distinguish the types of main engines.

Requirements:

• Age 16 (you may however take the examination 3 months prior to your birthday)

To take the examination please provide:

• a medical certificate confirming your sufficient hearing ability and vision
• a copy of your driver’s license or criminal record
• a current photograph 38x45mm
• the examination fee (currently 65,00 €)

Theory including:

• German waterways regulations
• meteorology
• seamanship
• navigation
• engine lore
• how to act in certain situations, esp. towards professional shipping

Practice:

• putting out to sea
• mooring
• man overboard maneuver
• turning
• navigation
• knots

Our current training boat  is a Jeanneau Cap Camarat 505 with a 50 hp outboard engine.
